Planting native trees is a simple, natural way to fight climate change. Each tree absorbs 5–10 kg of CO₂ per year through photosynthesis—up to 0.3 tonnes over 30 years—while also improving air quality, providing wildlife habitat, and cooling urban spaces. Though a single tree’s impact is modest, large-scale planting significantly cuts carbon emissions and enhances community wellbeing.
For every tree planted through Zero Energy, our partner Carbon Neutral will plant an additional tree or shrub on your behalf—doubling the environmental impact of your contribution.
Action | Annual CO₂ Saved (tonnes) | Lifetime CO₂ Saved (tonnes) | Typical Lifespan (years) | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Planting One Tree | 0.01 | 0.3 | 30 | Good for long-term carbon drawdown; modest annual impact |
Installing 6.6kW Solar | 7.5 | 188 | 25 | Major CO₂ reducer; offsets entire household electricity use |
Electric Room Aircon & Heaters (16kW) | 2.5 | 37.5 | 15 | Displaces fossil gas; provides efficient heating/cooling |
Heat Pump Hot Water System | 1 | 15 | 15 | Efficient water heating; ideal when powered by solar |
Home Battery Storage (10kWh) | 0.1 | 1 | 10 | Small CO₂ benefit; improves solar utilisation and grid load |
Switching to EV (solar charged) | 2.3 | 34.5 | 15 | Huge emissions cut; replaces petrol use with clean electricity |
