Inverter Specs :

  • Power: 6kW single-phase
  • Efficiency: 98.2%
  • Features: Wi-Fi monitoring, grid-tie capability, DC-coupled for efficient battery charging
  • Warranty: 10 years (5+5 years if registered online)

Additional Costs:

  • For larger systems, a higher-capacity inverter may be required, which could affect the final cost
  • In some cases, a switchboard upgrade may also be necessary. To confirm this, simply send us a clear photo of your switchboard, and our team will provide an accurate assessment.

Important Notes:

  • Needs a compliant switchboard with 6 spare circuit breaker slots—snap us a pic to confirm!
  • WiFi is required for the emergency backstop mechanism, which is now mandatory in Victoria.
  • SolarVIC interest-free loans are no longer available. Please inquire about other financing options.

How a Solar Battery Works

1. Solar Panel Generation

During the day, solar panels generate electricity from sunlight (DC power).

2. Powering the Home First

This electricity first powers your home appliances and lights directly.

3. Charging the Battery

Any unused or surplus energy is automatically sent to charge the battery instead of going to the grid.

4. Using Stored Energy at Night

When the sun goes down or your solar production drops, your home draws electricity from the battery.

5. Grid Backup (if needed)

If the battery is empty, or the usage exceeds battery capacity, your home will automatically draw from the grid.

6. Blackout Protection (Optional)

To rovide backup power during grid outages—keeping essential appliances like fridges, Wi-Fi, and lights running.

DC vs AC Coupled Battery Connection

AC Coupled

Pros :

  • Ideal for adding batteries to existing solar systems
  • Greater flexibility in system components
  • Easier installation in retrofit scenarios

Cons:

  • Multiple energy conversions = slightly lower efficiency
  • May require more space & higher upfront cost

DC Coupled

Pros :

  • Higher efficiency (fewer conversions)
  • Lower hardware cost (1 inverter)
  • Better for new installations

Cons:

  • Less flexible for upgrading existing systems
  • Must carefully match battery & solar components

Battery Installation Guidelines in Australia

Installing a solar battery system in Australia must comply with specific standards to ensure safety and performance.

Installation Location Restrictions

According to AS/NZS 5139:2019, batteries must not be installed:

  • Within 600mm of any exit, window, or ventilation opening into a habitable room.
  • In ceiling spaces, wall cavities, or under stairways.
  • In locations where they may be exposed to physical damage, such as vehicle impact in garages.

Garage Installations

  • Vehicle Protection: If installed in a garage, batteries must be protected from vehicle impact, often by installing a bollard or similar barrier.
  • Smoke Alarms: A photoelectric smoke alarm must be installed in the garage if the battery is located there, especially if the garage is attached to the residence.

Fire Safety and Ventilation

  • Fire-Rated Barriers: If a battery is installed on a wall adjacent to a habitable room, a fire-rated barrier may be required.
  • Ventilation: Adequate ventilation must be ensured to prevent overheating and allow for the dissipation of any gases.
